If FinOps was LEGO
FinOps and Lego, a fun story.
In FinOps, engineers play with the LEGO first, sometimes they have a manual and the pieces, sometimes they only have some pieces and sometimes they create a manual on the go. Some rare ones 3-D print their LEGO.
FinOps tries to step in to look at the manual and recommend using white block as they are cheaper, to no available. Most of the time FinOps gets involved while work is in progress and tries to remove the unnecessary blocks, maybe change some red blocks for white ones. Sneaky.
The other aspect of FinOps is to manage the space where the engineers are building (test and dev), and collect the LEGO bricks that lay abbandoned. FinOps do recommend cleaning every night, but it is often a skipped step, unless we have the automations ‘parents’ being enabled.
