Missing defaults in every day products
A UI designed by engineers; in need of a default.

You can see the power of defaults on things that do not have default but should.

The first thing that comes to mind is our remote control. Most people use just a few buttons: on/off, channel up/down, and volume up/down.

Then there are washing machines. We all have our favourite programme. We load our dirty clothes and press on/off, as that single programme is always set.

Now, let’s talk about microwaves. We all try to press that one button for 30 seconds at full power. We keep pressing it until we reach the time needed for our soup.

If we want to access advanced features, why not connect with a smartphone?

You get this when engineers build the UI (and they build it for themselves).
