AI is perfect for discovering kids’ (and adults’) talents and leveraging their amazing creativity. It works like this:
- We, as parents or teachers, pick a topic.
- We ask ChatGPT to write an essay on the topic, as a kid of that age would. Yes, you can ask ChatGPT to write as a 6-year-old or a 12-year-old.
- Print and share the content from ChatGPT with the kids and say, “Your task is to add value to this.” By using the AI-generated content as the basic material, you are removing the tedious work and opening the possibility to be creative, bold, and better than AI. It also teaches that AI is not here to replace people but to provide some mediocre content to build upon; the better the AI content, the better the student-generated one.
This approach works for any age, any topic, and any person.
Let’s do it for 10-year-old students
- The chosen topic is ‘If I Were in Charge of the World:’ (also inspired by AI)
- ChatGPT prompt: Write an essay, like a 10yo, with the topic “If I Were in Charge of the World”. Here are the first two paragraphs:
If I were in charge of the world, things would be super cool! First of all, every day would be a holiday, and we would have chocolate for breakfast. I mean, who wouldn’t want to start the day with chocolate pancakes and chocolate milk? I would also make it so that everyone could have a pet dragon. Not a scary one, of course, but a friendly dragon that could fly you to school and help with your chores.
- Now, add your own incredible ideas in two new paragraphs.
If you are like me, reading the text triggered your brain; you have ideas, a theme, and the level of seriousness of a 10-year-old, and it’s fun.
Now, go. Yes, you, the grown-up reading this, go add your own incredible ideas to whatever content AI generates; make it human, make it yours. The world needs your creativity, and you do too.
